DJI Air 2S
Explore the available technical information for this aircraft, including camera capabilities, flight performance and manufacturer-specific specifications.

The DJI Air 2S is a compact camera drone built around a 1-inch CMOS sensor and a 3-axis gimbal. Its headline strengths include 20 MP still photos, 5.4K video recording, and a range of intelligent shooting features. This IGIDRONE guide explains the manufacturer-listed specifications, practical limitations and points to check before buying. It is based on published DJI information, not claimed hands-on testing.

DJI Air 2S Review and Buying Guide
Camera and image quality
The Air 2S uses a 1-inch CMOS sensor with 20 MP effective pixels, paired with a 22 mm-equivalent lens and fixed f/2.8 aperture. It can record video at up to 5.4K/30fps and 4K/60fps, with Full HD recording available up to 120fps. DJI lists H.264 and H.265 recording and a maximum video bitrate of 150 Mbps. Still photos can be saved as JPEG or DNG (RAW).
The larger sensor format is a useful feature for aerial photography, but image results still depend on light, exposure, movement, settings and editing. The aperture is fixed, so exposure control relies on shutter speed, ISO and suitable ND filters when needed. DJI also specifies a 3-axis mechanical gimbal for stabilised footage.
Flight time, range and transmission: know the difference
DJI lists a maximum flight time of 31 minutes and a maximum hovering time of 30 minutes under controlled, no-wind test conditions. These are manufacturer test figures, not expected flight times for every outing. Wind, temperature, battery condition, flight style and the need to keep a safe return reserve affect usable time.
The maximum flight distance is listed as 18.5 km in no-wind conditions. This is not the same as the video transmission range. DJI specifies O3 video transmission up to 12 km under FCC conditions and 8 km under CE, SRRC and MIC conditions, measured in an unobstructed, interference-free environment. Local radio rules and real-world obstacles can reduce the available range. These figures should not be treated as a recommended distance to fly from the pilot.
Obstacle sensing and flight safety
The Air 2S has forward, backward, upward and downward vision sensing, plus a downward Time-of-Flight sensor. DJI states that it does not have left- or right-side obstacle sensing, so it is not an omnidirectional obstacle-avoidance drone. Sensor performance depends on lighting, surface texture, speed and flight conditions. Do not rely on obstacle sensing to replace visual awareness, pre-flight checks or safe route planning.
Intelligent shooting features
DJI lists features including FocusTrack, MasterShots, QuickShots, Hyperlapse, SmartPhoto and APAS 4.0. These tools can help create repeatable camera movements and automated clips. Check the official DJI documentation for the operating conditions and limitations of each mode before using it near people, buildings or other obstacles.

Who may want to consider the Air 2S?
The Air 2S may interest aerial photographers and video creators who value its 1-inch sensor, RAW photo support and 5.4K recording. Its weight is 595 g, so buyers should check the drone registration, pilot requirements and operating rules that apply in their country. It is also worth checking battery condition, repair support, replacement-part availability and compatibility of any used or older package before purchasing.
Advantages and limitations
- Advantages: 1-inch 20 MP camera; 5.4K video; 4K/60fps recording; 3-axis gimbal; RAW photo support; useful automated shooting modes.
- Limitations: no side obstacle sensing; fixed f/2.8 aperture; rated flight time is a controlled-test maximum; transmission and flight-distance figures are not real-world guarantees.
IGIDRONE verdict
The DJI Air 2S remains an interesting camera-drone option on paper because of its 1-inch sensor and flexible video modes. Whether it is the right purchase depends on current availability, price, battery condition if buying used, local regulations and the level of support available. Compare it with newer DJI camera drones before deciding, and verify the exact package contents rather than assuming every listing includes the same controller or number of batteries.
