DJI / DRONE PROFILE
DJI Mini SE
Explore the available technical information for this aircraft, including camera capabilities, flight performance and manufacturer-specific specifications.
DJI Mini SE is a lightweight folding camera drone with a 12 MP 1/2.3-inch sensor, 2.7K video recording and a three-axis gimbal. Its downward sensing and enhanced Wi-Fi transmission are more basic than newer Mini models. This IGIDRONE guide is based on DJI’s published specifications, not hands-on testing.

DJI Mini SE Review and Buying Guide
Compact design and camera
The Mini SE is designed as a compact folding camera drone. DJI lists its takeoff weight as under 249 g, including the standard aircraft configuration. Always check the rules that apply where you intend to fly; weight exemptions and registration requirements vary by country and operation.
Its 1/2.3-inch CMOS camera captures 12 MP still images and records up to 2.7K at 30fps or Full HD at up to 60fps. The 24 mm-equivalent f/2.8 lens is mounted on a 3-axis mechanical gimbal. Photos are JPEG only, and video uses H.264 at up to 40 Mbps. This is a simpler camera package than newer Mini models, and it does not record 4K video or DNG RAW stills.
Flight time and wind resistance
DJI rates the Mini SE for up to 30 minutes of flight time in a windless test, measured while flying at 17 km/h. Actual flight time varies with wind, temperature, battery condition, flight style and the reserve needed for a safe landing. DJI lists maximum wind resistance at 8.5–10.5 m/s (Level 5); this is a test specification, not a recommendation to fly in strong winds.
Video transmission and regional differences
The Mini SE uses Enhanced Wi-Fi video transmission rather than OcuSync. DJI’s stated maximum controller transmission distance depends on the aircraft and controller regional model: up to 4 km under FCC conditions, 2.5 km under SRRC conditions, and 2 km under MIC/CE conditions on 2.4 GHz; the CE 5.8 GHz figure is 500 m. These figures are measured in unobstructed, interference-free conditions. Check the exact regional model and local radio rules before purchase. Maintain visual line of sight and never treat the maximum transmission figure as a target flight distance.
Positioning and obstacle sensing
The aircraft has a downward vision positioning system and infrared sensing for hovering and low-altitude positioning when the surface and lighting conditions are suitable. It does not provide forward, backward, upward or side obstacle avoidance. DJI explicitly says the Mini SE does not support obstacle avoidance. Pilots must keep a safe distance from trees, wires, buildings, people and water, and must not rely on the downward sensors over unsuitable surfaces.
Creative modes and practical use
DJI lists QuickShot modes including Dronie, Rocket, Circle, Helix and Boomerang, along with panorama options. These can help create simple aerial clips, but the pilot must select a clear area, maintain visual awareness and monitor the drone throughout automated manoeuvres.
Key DJI Mini SE specifications
- Takeoff weight: under 249 g (DJI-listed configuration)
- Camera: 1/2.3-inch CMOS, 12 MP
- Lens: 24 mm equivalent, f/2.8

- Video transmission: Enhanced Wi-Fi; regional limits up to 4 km FCC, 2.5 km SRRC or 2 km MIC/CE on 2.4 GHz
- Downward sensing: vision positioning and infrared sensing
- Obstacle avoidance: not supported
- GNSS: GPS and GLONASS
Who should consider the Mini SE?
The Mini SE may suit beginners who want a simple, lightweight drone for casual aerial photos and 2.7K video. It is less suitable for creators who need 4K, RAW photography, longer-range OcuSync transmission or obstacle avoidance. If buying used, check battery health, gimbal operation, propellers, controller pairing, firmware and service availability.
Advantages and limitations
- Advantages: compact folding design; under-249-g manufacturer-listed takeoff weight; 3-axis gimbal; 2.7K video; beginner-friendly automated shooting modes.
- Limitations: no obstacle avoidance; no 4K video or RAW photos; Enhanced Wi-Fi transmission is more limited than OcuSync; actual flight time varies from the rated maximum.
IGIDRONE verdict
The DJI Mini SE is a basic, portable camera drone. Its appeal is simplicity and compact size, rather than advanced sensing or high-end imaging. Compare its price and condition with the Mini 2, Mini 2 SE and newer models before buying. Verify the exact regional version, package contents, warranty and local flight requirements.

Footnotes
| Footnotes | 1. The standard weight of the aircraft (including battery, propellers, and a microSD card) is 242 grams. Actual product weight may vary. Registration is not required in some countries and regions. Check local rules and regulations before use. These specifications have been determined through tests conducted with the latest firmware. Firmware updates can enhance performance, so updating to the latest firmware is highly recommended. 2. Due to local policy and regulation restrictions, the 5.8 GHz frequency band is currently banned in certain countries, including but not limited to Japan, Russia, Israel, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan. Please use the 2.4 GHz frequency band when operating in these locations. Always check local rules and regulations before use, as they may change over time. 3.Maximum flight range specification is a proxy for radio link strength and resilience, not aircraft battery capability. It only refers to the maximum, one-way flight distance. Data was measured in an open environment without interference. Please pay attention to the return prompt on the DJI Fly app during actual flight. Refer to the following applicable standard in different countries and regions: FCC: United States, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Chile, Colombia, Puerto Rico, and other regions; SRRC: Mainland China; CE: UK, Russia, France, Germany, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Macau, New Zealand, UAE, and other regions; MIC: Japan. 4.
