DJI Neo Review and Buying Guide
Camera and stabilisation
Neo uses a 1/2-inch image sensor with 12 MP still photography and a single-axis mechanical gimbal, supported by electronic image stabilisation in supported modes. DJI lists 4K video up to 30fps and Full HD up to 60fps, including vertical shooting options. The built-in storage is 22 GB and the aircraft does not use a microSD card.
Flight performance
DJI lists an approximate takeoff weight of 135 g, maximum flight time of 18 minutes and maximum flight distance of 7 km in controlled tests. Maximum wind resistance is 8 m/s. With propeller guards, DJI’s maximum endurance test figure is approximately 17 minutes. Real-world recording time depends on flight style, wind, temperature and battery condition.
Control and safety
Neo supports palm takeoff/landing and automatic shooting modes. Its standard sensing system is downward visual positioning; it does not provide forward or omnidirectional obstacle avoidance. Pilots must choose open spaces, keep the aircraft in sight and avoid relying on tracking modes near people, traffic, trees or wires.
Key specifications
- Takeoff weight: approx. 135 g
- Camera: 1/2-inch sensor, 12 MP stills
- Video: 4K/30fps; FHD up to 60fps; vertical video modes
- Gimbal: single-axis mechanical with electronic stabilisation
- Internal storage: 22 GB
- Maximum flight time: approx. 18 minutes (17 minutes with propeller guards)
- Maximum flight distance: 7 km (DJI controlled test)
- Maximum horizontal speed: 8 m/s Sport; 16 m/s Manual mode
- Wind resistance: 8 m/s (Level 4)
- Sensing: downward visual positioning only
Who should consider it?
Neo is aimed at beginners and creators who want an easy-to-carry drone for casual self-filming and short social clips. It is not ideal for users who need advanced obstacle avoidance, longer flights, a large camera sensor or professional video formats. Choose the package based on whether you need a controller, goggles or motion-control accessories.
Advantages and limitations
- Advantages: very light; simple palm-launch operation; automatic shooting modes; 4K/30 video; small and easy to carry.
- Limitations: no obstacle avoidance; single-axis gimbal; limited built-in storage; shorter endurance than larger camera drones.
IGIDRONE verdict
DJI Neo should be chosen by matching its real capabilities, package and support options to your flying needs. Treat DJI’s maximum figures as controlled-test results, check local flight rules, and confirm the exact bundle and current availability before purchasing.
